I Need Your Help

I have decided to pursue the much dreaded and oft-debated SPHR test

For those of you not up to date on the latest and greatest in the world of HR certifications, the SPHR stands for Senior Professional Human Resources.  Earning this designation demonstrates that you understand and can apply your knowledge of human resources. There are two other designations: PHR and GPHR.  The PHR is more technical and operations based (think compliance) and the GPHR is focused on international HR.  There are some new certifications offered as well, to read more about all HR certifications click here.

So I’ve worked in HR for a while now and I write a blog about HR,  what could be so scary about taking a test? After all, I already have my PHR. The PHR was hard! It was a lot of work and in hindsight I wish I had waited a couple more years and just taken the SPHR. Especially when you read that only 47% of people who take the SPHR test pass it!

To add a further layer of difficulty (maybe not I guess it depends on your feelings towards SHRM prep materials), I am studying on a budget. Which means I will not be spending $700 on the SHRM learning system or $1500 for Jack Welch’s online course.  Instead I purchased some books that a Facebook friend recommended:

SHRM SPHR Study Books

This is where you come in…Give me your test taking tips and tricks!

Have you taken the SPHR and passed? Didn’t pass? Did you join study groups? Did find a book that helped you learn the test? Or is it just cramming your brain full of HR minutiae?

Please take a minute to impart me with your wisdom in the comments.

Have a great weekend!
